Managed Agents (Free Tier, Hooks, and Scheduled Runs)

Google's hosted agent service in the Gemini API adds a free tier, spend caps, and recurring runs, for developers building on the API.

Gemini 3.6 Flash is now the default model for Managed Agents, with 3.5 Flash and 3.5 Flash-Lite selectable instead
Environment hooks let you block, lint, or audit each tool call the agent makes inside its sandbox before it runs
A max_total_tokens setting caps what one task can consume, so a stuck agent cannot run up an open-ended bill
Scheduled triggers run agent tasks on a recurring basis, and a new Environments API manages sandbox sessions programmatically
Managed Agents now has a free tier, and the features are reachable through the Gemini Interactions API in TypeScript, Python, and cURL
