Agent Compute Engine and Expanded Agent Governance
Google Cloud's new computing service built to run large numbers of AI agents, plus more controls for tracking and limiting what company agents do. Mostly for IT and platform teams.

Details
- Agent Compute Engine runs each agent in its own small, isolated machine that can pause when idle and resume quickly. It already powers Gemini's agent for work tasks
- Agent Compute Engine reaches preview in the coming months. Companies can sign up through an interest form now
- Agent Substrate, an open-source version of the same idea for Kubernetes, is available now and works with agents like Claude Code
- Agent governance tools (a gateway, a registry of approved agents and tools, and agent identities) now cover more of Google Cloud's runtimes
- Coming to preview this quarter: token budgets and cost guardrails, rules for which model handles which request, and governance for coding agents like Claude Code on company laptops
- Pricing wasn't announced
