AnthropicfeatureAuto Mode Rules in Claude Code Permissions
Small update for Claude Code users. The /permissions command has a new Auto mode tab for viewing and editing the rules that decide which tool calls run without asking.
Details
- Shipped in Claude Code version 2.1.246, which also added a startup warning for Bash allow rules that put a wildcard before the subcommand, such as Bash(git * main), because those also match options inserted before the subcommand
- The same version changed /cd so the new directory's project settings, hooks, MCP servers, skills, and agents take effect right away instead of on the next resume
- The rest of 2.1.246 is bug fixes covering fullscreen scrolling, background sessions, plugin installs, and MCP tool arguments
Best for
Seeing what Claude Code is allowed to do on its own instead of guessing at it.
When to use it
Auto mode is approving or denying things you did not expect and you want to read the actual rules.
Who benefits
Developers running Claude Code in auto mode. Users of other Claude products will not see this.
Staying informed is great. Staying ahead is better.
