Cowork on the desktop app now has its own browser in the side panel, kept separate from the one you use yourself.
Details
- Claude navigates sites, reads pages, and fills forms inside a browser that lives in the Cowork side panel, separate from your personal browser.
- You can import logins from Chrome, Edge, or Firefox and grant access per site. Banking, email, and single sign-on sites are excluded unless you turn them on.
- It carries the same defenses against hidden attack instructions in web content that Claude in Chrome uses.
- Claude in Chrome stays the default for pages you already have open with an active session. You pick which one Claude reaches for in Settings.
- Rolling out the week of August 26 to Pro, Max, and Team on macOS, Windows, and Linux (beta). Desktop app only. Enterprise has it now, managed from Organization settings.

Handing Cowork a web task to run start to finish without it touching your own browser windows.
When to use it
The task is standalone research or a portal you want Claude to work through on its own, rather than a page you already have open.
