GPT-5.6 Luna and Terra Price Cuts

OpenAI cut the API price of GPT-5.6 Luna by 80% and GPT-5.6 Terra by 20%, for anyone building on those models or using them through Codex and ChatGPT Work.

  • Luna drops to $0.20 per million input tokens and $1.20 per million output tokens, down from $1 and $6
  • Terra drops to $2 per million input tokens and $12 per million output tokens, down from $2.50 and $15
  • Sol, the top model in the family, keeps its existing price
  • The lower rates also change how usage is counted against paid subscriptions in Codex and ChatGPT Work, so the same plan covers more work
  • OpenAI says it funded the cuts by using GPT-5.6 Sol to make its own serving stack cheaper to run

Best for

High-volume work you skipped because the token cost did not pencil out, like classifying or rewriting thousands of items at a time.

When to use it

A repetitive job is running on a pricier model and the quality bar does not need the top tier.

Who benefits

Marketing ops teams running batch content or data jobs through the API, plus Codex and ChatGPT Work subscribers.
