GPT-Image-2.6 Flare and Sunburst
Two new image models in the OpenAI API, for developers: Flare for speed and Sunburst for quality and consistency across edits.

Details
- Flare can generate an image in as little as six seconds with quality set to low, and improves layout for posters and product imagery
- Sunburst brings higher-quality generation and keeps details more consistent from one edit to the next at medium or high quality
- Both can generate SVG files and animated GIFs
- A new complexity setting controls how much planning the model does on a request, separate from image quality, which controls visual detail
- Developers can now send a marked-up image to show exactly where an edit should go, on supported GPT-Image 2.5 and 2.6 models
- Available through the image generation and image edit endpoints as gpt-image-2.6-flare and gpt-image-2.6-sunburst
Best for
Building image generation and editing into apps or automated creative workflows.
When to use it
Pick Flare for high-volume or quick-turn images, and Sunburst for work that goes through several rounds of edits and has to stay consistent.
Who benefits
Developers and technical marketing teams building creative tools. People who only use ChatGPT get these upgrades through Images 2.6 instead.
