Image Generation in Google Earth (Rolled Back)

Google Earth on the web briefly generated an image of a place from a text prompt, built on the satellite and 3D imagery already on screen. Google pulled it one day after launch.

Zoom to a location, click create image, and type what you want to see
The output combined your prompt with the satellite and 3D imagery of that exact spot, so it stayed anchored to the place on screen
Ran on Nano Banana 2, Google's image model
Google pulled it about 24 hours later after users shared generated imagery that appeared to violate its policies: plane crashes, refugee camps, explosion craters, infrastructure that was never built
Images carried an AI watermark and did not alter the main Earth view, but the familiar satellite frame still lent them the look of evidence
Google says it is rolling the feature back while it works on stronger guardrails

Best for

Tracking how fast a shipped feature can reverse. There is nothing to use until Google turns it back on.

When to use it

Check back if Google reships with guardrails. Until then a location visual still needs a designer, or an image model working from your own reference photos.

Who benefits

Anyone pitching a physical space: real estate, local government, community projects, venue and event marketing. They are on the old workflow for now.
