ChatGPT and Codex can now pull your setup, projects, and recent chats over from Claude Code, Claude Cowork, or Cursor.
Details
- Transfers instruction files (AGENTS.md), config files (settings.json, config.toml), skills, plugins, project folders, project memories, MCP server configurations, hooks, slash commands, and subagents
- The desktop app imports from Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and Cursor. The Codex CLI imports from Claude Code and Cursor
- In the desktop app you go to Settings then Import. In the CLI you run /import during a local session
- The CLI pulls up to 50 chats from the last 30 days
- Automatic updates can be turned on in desktop settings so imported work stays in sync with the original agent
- Importing leaves your existing agent setup unchanged. /import is unavailable during a running task, in a remote session, or when connected to a local app-server daemon

moving into Codex without rebuilding the instructions, skills, and connections you already configured in another agent
When to use it
you are trialing Codex alongside a tool you already use and don't want to hand-copy your setup to compare them fairly
