Microsoft's family of in-house AI models expanded at Build 2026 with its first reasoning model plus new coding, image, voice, and transcription models, all available through Microsoft Foundry.

Details

MAI-Thinking-1 is Microsoft's first reasoning model, tuned for efficiency at a low token cost.
MAI-Code-1 is a coding model that plugs into GitHub Copilot and VS Code.
MAI-Image-2.5, with a faster MAI-Image-2.5-Flash variant, generates images and is available in PowerPoint and Foundry, with OneDrive coming soon.
MAI-Transcribe-1.5 handles transcription across 43 languages, and MAI-Voice-2 generates speech in more than 15 additional languages.
All are reachable through Microsoft Foundry and a dedicated MAI Playground, part of Microsoft's push to own more of its own model stack.
