Skills in Gemini

Saved, reusable instructions in the Gemini app that you call with a slash command. Rolling out to personal Google accounts for users 18 and older, and replacing Gems.

Details

You ask Gemini to create a skill, it saves the instructions, and you call it back by typing /skill-name in any chat
Gemini can also apply a relevant skill on its own, and you can stack several skills on one task
Skills can reference files like PDFs, documents, and images. You can keep unlimited skills, but only 100 can be active at once
Previously part of Gemini Spark, which needed a Google AI subscription. Now rolling out globally to signed-in personal accounts, with work and school accounts planned
Replaces Gems: existing Gems convert to skills automatically, with personal accounts moving in November 2026, Workspace business accounts in March 2027, and education accounts in June 2027
